What To Wear For Your Engagement Session!

You’ve just booked your photographer, the date for your engagement session is set and the location is confirmed. Now you’re probably wondering – what am I going to wear?!

What you wear to your engagement session is going to influence your confidence going into the shoot, and the look of the images. Wearing something that makes you feel your absolute best and blends well with the location of your session is a MUST!

I have tons of great advice to help you pick out the perfect outfit that will guarantee your photos turn out AMAZING!

        WHAT COLORS SHOULD I WEAR?

I always recommend keeping the colors neutral. A soft and light color palette will help reflect light and give off that clean look we all love in our photos. For the ladies, a few neutral colors I like to recommend are white, beige and blush. For men, I suggest something white, gray, or blue/denim. [see below]

Black is timeless, and I am all about it. HOWEVER, if one of you does wear black [or all black] make sure that the other person is not. You don’t want to look like one dark blob of color. You need contrast. [see below]

Prints or patterns are always fun as long as you keep it simple. [i.e. florals or stripes] Only one person should wear a pattern. The other will need to wear all solid colors for a even balance. [see below]

        HOW MANY OUTFITS?

You should plan on bringing two outfits to your session – one casual and one dressy. How dressy you want to get is totally up to you. Two outfits gives the photographer more to work with, and provides you with more variety in your images. [see two images below]

The formal look adds a romantic and editorial feel, where as the more relaxed outfit allows us to get into that more adventure style of posing. The photos can be more wild and energetic.

[see below examples of formal vs. casual]

CAN WE BRING ACCESSORIES / PROPS?

Hats, sunglasses and props can be a great way to add personality, and style to your images. I once had one couple that wanted a 70’s vibe for their shoot, so they brought a vintage car and she wore a bell sleeve dress with brimmed a hat.

Some go to props of mine are blankets, champange, bubbles and sparklers.

Its those little details that make your images become more uniquely you!

SHOULD I GET MY HAIR AND MAKEUP DONE?

You’re about to take some epic photos with your man! Spoil yourself and get done up! You are investing in beautiful photos, so you definitely deserve to invest in your look, as well!

         [see 3 images below]

These are images you will look back on for a lifetime. Putting that extra effort into your look will make you feel even more confident as you walk into your session. Always be sure to consult with your photographer and see what they recommend too.
