A DTLA Editorial Style Engagement Session - Los Angeles, CA - Michaela & Isaac
Today I am sharing my favorite shots from M + I’s Downtown Los Angeles editorial style engagement session. Our couple's love story began when they were living in San Francisco. It didn't take long for Isaac to know Michaela was the one, and started to make plans to propose. Before taking off on a beautiful trip to Portugal, Isaac decorated the whole apartment and surprised Michaela with a proposal as soon as she walked through the door. Isaac said he wanted the whole trip to Portugal to be a celebration of their engagement.
I think it is so fitting for these two to have a voguish, downtown, city engagement shoot, with some chic European flare thrown in, both an homage to the first and second acts of their love story.
The duality in these window reflection shots is so pleasing and effortlessly striking. Such a simple concept gives us two photos in one, with juxtaposing emotional resonance.
This session just exudes cool couple in a sexy, vibey, street style magazine layout. The mix of the editorial and industrial architecture with the moody, romantic, and warm rooftop is a perfect contrast. I think the film especially calls attention to this contrast in a nostalgic and narrative way, as film always does.
We got a bit more casual on the rooftop, Michaela and Isaac being more playful and flirty as the scrumptious sunset melts into them. The cityscape is a backdrop, a stage, for the gorgeous couple, grand, but not stealing the show.
One of my favorite things in these shoots is capturing the sweet, genuine moments between the couple. Where I am simply on the sidelines and they are just being themselves, enveloped with one another, and in love.
